What are your desires? - Psalm 37:4
We all want someting in our life. Face it: we crave for the essentials and the expendables. But how do we differentiate the two?
This Psalm talks about our desires and how we are able to attain them. To the non-Christians, this verse may seem like a quick way to get what we want: “make God happy and i can get a new car.” This ideal seems disgusting…but sometimes that’s how even we Christians feel. But God offers much more than this and wants us, both Christians and non-Christians, to accept His gift.
God offers us Himself time and time again. He is our provider and our strength. He will always be all we ever need. In times of contentment, we sometimes forget that God is near. We forget the things that seem most important to us. It seems that only in a storm, we cry out for God. We forget that God is our provider, our strength, our enough. We need to remember that our desires, just like the other aspects of our lives, should be deeply immersed in God.
Know your heart and where your desires lie. Are they in a car? Are they in a new phone? Are they a in good education? Are they in stable relationships? Are they in peace? Are they in God? Wanting things is okay. These “things” start to become troublesome when they distract from what is important. Choose the things that will ultimately lead you to God.
The depths of a human heart is a mystery and only God has figured it out. Know what you desire. It is God’s greatest joy to see His children living in His perfect and awesome will. Let your desires to be for God. Don’t follow your heart for it can deceive you. Follow God for He can always be trusted. He is the greatest desire we can ever yearn for.
